The SBC and Calvinism: A Correction
Wednesday, November 26, 2008
In my original blog on this topic, I stated:
This, coupled with the release of Family Driven Faith, and planting Grace Family Baptist Church, set off a chain of SBC events that would culminate in the SBTC Youth Ministry Forum, and (some would argue) the recent “Patriarchy” rant at Midwestern Seminary by Cynthia Kunsman.
Let me state clearly that Dr. Kunsman’s presentation was part of an Evangelical Ministries to New Religions (EMNR) conference. Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary hosted the conference, but had no part in choosing, vetting, or approving the speakers and/or topics. Thus, Kunsman did not act as a representative of the school. In fact, MBTS President Phil Roberts “rebuked” Kunsman for her comments (see here). Moreover, Ethics Daily reported:
The EMNR... board and the administration at Midwestern Seminary concurred that [Kunsman] made "unwarranted and misinformed accusations against Christian teachers and ministries, including the Council on Biblical Manhood and Womanhood and agencies within the Southern Baptist Convention."
I do not mean to imply that MBTS is in agreement with my views on age-integration, and FIC (that’s an entirely different matter), or that they are supporters of the extreme forms of patriarchy Kunsman addressed in her presentation (and which few Christians would practice, or condone). I simply wish to make the record clear. Dr. Kunsman is not a representative of the SBC, nor do her views represent MBTS.
